Update
Sep 03, 2010 -- 11:56amJacob has been very well behaved at school this week. I bribed him with a new Transformer if he can get 4 to 5 stars on his folder in a row. So far this week, he has 3 stars. He has had Transformers on him mind for about a month now. I hate to resort to bribery this early in the school year but I want him to start the year off listening and following directions at school.
Ben did well at his friend’s funeral. I wasn’t able to go with him so he went with his friend and his mother. I am very grateful to his friend mom because she was willing to take Ben... I heard there were a lot of students and teacher at the funeral. I sure it was a very difficult day for everyone. Ben was at the church most of the day and was a big help with setting up for the luncheon. I’m proud of him.
Aaron is keeping busy with band practice. He has also had a good bit of home work and 2 tests since school started. He has been getting his work done without complaining about it. Aaron is already starting to think about what classes he wants to take next year. Ultimately, Aaron wants to go to college to become an engineer. He knows he will have to work hard in high school and college so he can reach his goal. I hope he follows through on that career path.
Loss
Aug 31, 2010 -- 5:08pmAs a parent it is difficult to watch your child grieving. Ben lost a friend last week to an unfortunate accident. He is having a little trouble dealing with the loss of his friend. A perfectly healthy 13 year old boy was killed in an ATV accident. Ben will barely talk to me about the situation. He answers my questions with some attitude which has been normal for him lately. From what I can tell of the situation, the kids seem to be using each other to get through the emotional part of the loss. There have been several councilors at the school the last few days. I have encouraged Ben to talk to one of them but I don’t think he will. Hopefully, after the memorial services the kids can start to get back on track with school. Even though it will be difficult, the kids need to move forward. I’m not sure what I can do to help Ben through this difficult process. I will continue to try to talk to Ben about his what he is feeling and hopefully that will be enough.
